The legs are metal rods that can be extended to change the gnomes height. Simply pulling on pushing on the gnomes feet will move them in and out. With the legs fully extended the gnome is about 17 inches tall, when they are pushed in he shrinks to about 13 inches. The bottom of the feet are a hard flat surface so the gnome can stand up easily without wobbling or falling over.
